About the Center for Practice Management
CPM is a practice management advisory program, and is designated as a lawyer assistance program by the North Carolina State Bar for the purposes of Rule 1.6(c) of the Rules of Professional Conduct.
CPM began in 2008 with the objectives to assist NCBA members in:
- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of legal services
- Implementing systems and controls to reduce risk and improve quality in the delivery of legal services
- Improving client relations
- Understanding and using emerging technologies to improve the delivery of legal services
The services of CPM are a free, confidential benefit to North Carolina Bar Association members, and include:
- One-on-one consulting services provided in person at the Bar Center, over the telephone or via email
- Advice and guidance on law office technology issues and trends
- Referrals to information technology and legal technology service providers
- Speaking to local bar associations, law firms and other groups
CPM provides the following additional services at a nominal fee:
- On-site consulting with NCBA member law firms
- Custom training for local bar associations, law firms and other groups
About Erik Mazzone
Erik Mazzone is the Director of the Center for Practice Management for the North Carolina Bar Association, where he provides advice on technology, marketing, management and finance. He is the Associate Editor of Law Practice Today, a web-based magazine published by the ABA Law Practice Management Section and a member of the Program Committee of the National Association of Bar Executives. He is a graduate of Boston College and Boston College Law School and speaks frequently on law practice management.
